.DISCUSSION...
Issued at 234 AM CST Tue Dec 3 2024
The upper disturbance that brought some snow today has moved
off toward the east. This leaves northwesterly flow in place
aloft as surface high pressure builds across the plains. Strong
CAA is keeping a pretty strong inversion in place locking in a
deck of stratus across the region. We finally see this stratus
erode later this morning into the afternoon. Another cold day is
in store as temperatures climb into the 30`s for highs. Dry
weather is expected into tonight beneath high pressure.
Winds veer toward the south late tonight into Wednesday as low
pressure develops across the plains and the surface high moves
off toward the east. Warm and moist advection commences as a
result with increasing cloud cover. Something to keep an eye on
is the NAM has been somewhat persistent in showing very light
QPF signals across Illinois early Wednesday morning. Given
surface temperatures below freezing, will need to watch for
freezing drizzle potential. Probability is still to low to
mention in the forecast for now. Otherwise, Wednesday will be
warmer with highs in the 40`s with breezy southwest winds. A
front will pass through the region late Wednesday but with
limited moisture thinking most areas remain dry. Another very
cold airmass will follow behind the front taking temperatures
back down into the 30`s for highs and lows in the teens and
20`s.
Behind the northwest flow aloft, high pressure centered atop
the region pulls eastward. Southern stream energy is progged
across northern Mexico to lift into the southern plains. Some
notable timing differences exist in how this flow evolves over
the weekend but increasing PoPs across the southeast should
result which may move into the region toward the end of the
extended period.
